We are a family owned and operated store serving area musicians since 1965. You buy out of the glass display box and have to know your stuff or guess.Bill's Music is a full line musical instrument retailer specializing in guitars & amps, brass & woodwinds, keyboards & electronics, drums, bluegrass, pro sound & recording, dj & lighting, accessories and more. None guaranteed to not result in getting canned, but there are things to try at least.Īnd as far as the consumer is concerned, unless on bought some of the blow out equipment they sold, we are screwed as the competition is being eliminated.Īnd with that doesn t only go pricing but choice and individuality.Īnyone ever tried to go into a guitar center and try several high end mikes with various pre amp combos to A-B equipment? There are creative ways to go about these transitions. If they’re really smart, they’ll arrange some sort of store event or meet and greet or ask the store to give them a 2 week time period to offer a special grand re-opening for old clients. If those west LA guys are smart, they have cell phones full of numbers and will call their old clients. (usually having to do with lack of personalized service) I always stay with ONE pro sale rep until given a reason to change, ![]() That way, their west LA clients can go see them at Gtr Cntr. Let’s hope for those guys that it’s all about one on one personalized service. I've actually loved the break, working on music & health more but making the transition after an established store closes is very tough to navigate. I went to another store that was also regarded a great store, only lasted 7 months because all of the better clients that went to both stores were already assigned to their senior sales people and they had me as the new guy doing menial tasks for 1/2 of the day before they finally said your not selling enough & I was layed off.ġ year later I'm trying to get back to work but it's not easy when you've been entrenched in a niche store in a unique market trying to figure out what to do next. I worked for 10 years in what was regarded as the top extreme High End HiFi store in the USA and it closed Sept 2010,I was 1 of the top performing sales person in the NY scene selling amazing systems & equipment like most people can't grasp(stereos and systems routinely $50-$100k) It's also tough going into a new company or environment when you're the "new guy" whatever your level of seniority was with your previous company compounded with the economy and newer business models the stores are trying to deal with. Guit center just eliminated a big competitor in the so cal area. Though I shop at guit center pro dept, competition is needed and it did not go unnoticed to me that the store is closing instead of changing owners. I ignored it and started playing straight ahead chordal jazz.and my girlfriend, who was kind of freaking out cuz I was a "breakn da rule”, couldn t seem to grasp the concept that within 5 sec of playing real chordal jazz, any sales guy knows a musician when he hears one and says ziltch about “permission”.īut besides the silly sign I recommend the store to anyone in that area, very cool.Īnd it is indeed sad that west LA will be gone. ![]() ![]() The only difference was they had a sign by the guitars, (especially the 5000 jazz guitars), that said ask sales associate if you wish to play a guitar. Jam packed with good stuff, amazing vibe. I was up in Hate ashbury san fran last year and they have an AMAZINGLY cool private music store.
